Nanos tabletop microscope

The NANOS is a next-generation tabletop scanning electron microscope (SEM) developed by Nuenen-based Semplor, formerly Phe-nx. The company set out to create a high-quality microscope that combines professional performance with ease of use and an affordable cost of ownership.

The instrument combines advanced technology with high-quality imaging and is designed to be easy to use and maintain. By arranging its internal components in a radically different way, the development team created an exceptionally compact instrument. Behind NANOS is a team with more than 200 years of combined experience in electron microscopy, extensive knowledge of the EM market and a strong drive to make SEM technology more accessible.

OID’s challenge was to create a recognisable enclosure design that expressed these qualities without compromising usability or serviceability. In close collaboration with Phe-nx, OID also developed a distinctive visual design language that could form the basis for the start-up’s brand identity. And in doing so, we had to show our colours.

Emile Asselbergs, CEO and co-founder of Phe-nx (now Semplor): “We are highly pleased with the result. It is great to work with partners just like you, who have a feel for what’s needed and wanted, and are willing to walk the extra mile!”

Richard Geschiere, CCO and co-founder of Phe-nx (now Semplor), described the result as fantastic and praised OID’s practical approach, material knowledge, mechatronics, production processes and aesthetics — pure craftsmanship.
