Hydrogen designed
In response to the growing need for large-scale renewable energy storage, Arnhem-based Elestor developed a modular hydrogen-bromine flow battery system for long-duration electricity storage. The technology was designed for large-scale stationary applications, storing electricity when supply is high and returning it when needed.
Following successful pilots, Elestor began scaling up the technology. This created a new design challenge: how could large technical installations meet demanding engineering requirements while also addressing scalability, architectural quality, integration into their surroundings and brand identity?
In close collaboration with Elestor, OID designed two energy plants using distinctive architectural elements to give the installations a recognisable identity while supporting their integration into different environments and stakeholder acceptance. OID developed the designs in 3D CAD, after which they were digitally visualised by Sensu.
At the time of this project, Elestor’s technology was based on hydrogen-bromine chemistry. The company has since transitioned to hydrogen-iron flow battery technology.
OID has supported technology companies since 2013 in translating their vision into commercially successful solutions.
