Ngrave ZERO crypto wallet

Brussels-based tech start-up NGRAVE launched NGRAVE ZERO in May 2020, a fully air-gapped cryptocurrency hardware wallet designed to keep private keys offline and protected from remote online attacks. ZERO combines a high level of security with an accessible user experience.

ZERO is part of a three-part security solution that also includes the LIQUID mobile app and GRAPHENE, a stainless-steel backup system for storing the user’s cryptographic key. The platform was co-developed by NGRAVE, engineering agency Comate Engineering & Design, imec and KU Leuven.

Comate, responsible for the mechanical development of the device and its housing, asked OID to develop the aesthetic design. In contrast to the technical and security-driven starting points, I chose to give the housing an accessible, human character with a high level of recognisability.

The design language proved robust throughout Comate’s engineering process and became a strong visual element in NGRAVE’s product communication and campaigns.
